The Kuehne Climate Center (KCC) has officially become an independent entity of the Kühne Foundation as of August 31, 2024. Withthe appointment of its firstCEO, Dr. Jörg Wiese, the KCC is accelerating on its mission to drive forward innovative logistics related climate solutions.

Dr. Jörg Dräger, Executive Director of the Board of Trustees at the Kühne Foundation states “with the appointment  of our CEO, Dr. Jörg Wiese, I am confident that the Kuehne Climate Center is set up well for remarkable growth and impact. Dr. Wiese brings a wealth of experience and a visionary approach that aligns perfectly with our mission to tackle the climate crisis through innovative solutions.”

Dr. Wiese brings over 17 years of extensive experience in leadership roles, including Chief of Staff, Chief Operations Officer, and advisor across various sectors at the Boston Consulting Group. His diverse expertise spans Finance, HR, Legal & Risk, Marketing, Event Management, and IT systems, complemented by a strong background in multicultural leadership.

Under Dr. Wiese's leadership, the KCC will focus on the intersection of logistics, climate action, and sustainable development. The center aims to decouple economic growth from carbon emissions by exploring how logistics can be a catalyst for the green transformation. Key areas will be the Climate Action in logistics and scaling up the logistics of Climate Action.

For example, the KCC will delve into the logistics challenges associated with carbon dioxide removal (CDR) strategies. If proven safe and effective, techniques like enhanced rock weathering and ocean alkalinity enhancement will require the transport of billions of tonnes of alkaline minerals. To tackle these challenges and contribute meaningfully to climate solutions, the KCC plans to significantly expand its team.

This growth will enable the KCC to enhance its capacity to address the enormous logistical tasks necessary for responding to climate change and positioning logistics as a vital part of the solution to the climate crisis. Dr. Wiese underlined "I am very excited to step into the leadership role at the Kuehne Climate Center and collaborate with the Climate Team to build this impactful new organization. This opportunity to drive meaningful environmental and societal change, by advancing logistics decarbonization and leveraging logistics to support broader decarbonization efforts, is truly motivating."
