New Hamburg State Opera: Stefan Hofmann becomes Managing Director of the project company

Stefan Hofmann takes over as Managing Director of HSO Projekt gGmbH and in this role will be largely responsible for the construction of the new opera house on Baakenhöft.

On 1 June 2025, Stefan Hofmann took over the management of HSO Projekt gGmbH and thus the responsibility for the planning and construction of the opera house on Baakenhöft in HafenCity. Stefan Hofmann is a trained architect and has many years of professional experience as an architect and project developer in national and international companies.

Dr Jörg Dräger, Managing Director of the Kühne Foundation: "The construction of a new opera house is a challenge: architecturally as a building in an outstanding location in Hamburg's HafenCity, functionally as an excellent opera house and economically as an extremely demanding large-scale project. We are delighted to have gained an experienced expert in Stefan Hofmann, who has worked both as an architect and as a project developer and is very familiar with HafenCity. He will be directly involved in the further planning and realisation of the project. The architectural qualification process is due to begin this summer."

Stefan Hofmann: "I am very much looking forward to the challenge as Managing Director of the project company of organising the interests of those involved in the project in a targeted manner and contributing my many years of experience to the construction of the new opera house in Hamburg."

On 7 February this year, the City of Hamburg and the Kühne Foundation agreed on the construction of a new opera house. A project company was founded for the planning and construction of the opera house, which will realise the project. A project team is to be set up successively.
