Climate change

Tackling climate change is the defining challenge of our time. The predicted consequences of climate change for life on earth are serious: rising sea levels, shifting climate zones, extreme weather events, droughts and more pandemics disrupting lives, causing famine and driving large-scale migration.

These impacts will be especially severe for people in vulnerable low- and middle-income countries, which have contributed the least to the causes of climate change. They will have to increasingly grapple with responding to a changing climate and associated extreme weather events, whilst also dealing with other development challenges.

Responding to climate change requires significant and rapid transformation of all sectors. However, the transformation and rapid scaling up of low carbon solutions provides an opportunity for more green and growth-promoting forms of development.
